Fashion in Columbo: Lovely But Lethal

  • Nov. 21st, 2008 at 8:36 PM

Viveca Scott (Vera Miles) owns a powerful cosmetic brand named 'Beauty Mark Inc.' but on the decline. One of her scientists finally comes up with the Eternal Youth potion which she covets greedily in the hope she'll get her business back on the green and eventually turns it into the richest cosmetic company in the world (if such thing as Eternal Youth potion existed she certainly would).

Strolling about at a fashion show, Viveca doesn't do in half measure. 1940s white turban, swan feather caplet and glass of sparkling wine

Matching clutch in fishscales and a rather modestly designed invitation carton

Ugly duckling Shirley who's in awe of Viveca as well as bold as she turns into a blackmailer. This outfit is REALLY REALLY seventies, very dated though charming. Pointy collar, patchwork like design, fuzzy green...

Fashion shoot at Beauty Mark Inc. nice Asian model with airy gaze. Again get these lightly coloured shades back in fashion!

Featuring another all time favourite colour of the Seventies: Purple. Afros were also very popular among black women at the time

Viveca in her kitchissim office in pale pinks, plexiglass armchairs. Polka dot shirt with massive collar and matching Black/White handbag

Viveca shopping out with ugly duckling. The store has some interesting dresses with crazy patterns, bold colours, shift dresses neatly aligned on portable racks. Ugly ducklin who thinks she knows better tries to get a pink cocktail dress off Viveca using menacing blackmail techniques.

Fashion in Columbo: A Lady In Waiting

  • Nov. 17th, 2008 at 6:59 PM

Full of Seventies nostalgia, I couldn't resist to share a few stills from Columbo which is a great great minefield for Seventies fashion. Edith Head actually appears in one episode for a cameo (Requiem for a falling star to be precise). Random stills I really find inspiring:

Let me have that dress!

A rather bold outfit in pukey rasberry pink

I love the bag and the shirt

Susan Clark as naughty Beth Chadwick

I found that episode rather emotional. Beth Chadwick stands as an ugly duckling (she did look like shit) with sudden inheritance and complete freedom over it (she killed her brother). She soon turns into a fashion freak. So good for the seventies, so good for the nostalgia.

Strike it off the wishlist

As I suspected, the leather jacket never arrived. I can still grant the seller with the benefit of the doubt but as my 2 e-mails have been left unreplied I can only assume I was right. Now starts the hassle of probably having to open a dispute if the seller cannot provide me with a proof of postage... Ebay sucks big time with ppl like this. Anyway, here are my recent purchases:

from http://www.mypashmina.com a company I especially choosed for their fair-trade philosophy and the possiblity of having garments made to order.

My favourite cleanser from Earthbound Organics I bought on Little Green Nursery (http://www.little-green-nursery.co.uk). Costs £7.50 but lasts ages. This cleanser is handmade and only contains Organic Sunflower oil, Organic Carrot oil, Rose water, Organic Camomile, Organic Calendula and beeswax. The texture is very thick but melts and feels gorgeous on the skin. No breakouts and keeps the skin protected. This is their bestseller product and I'm not surprised.

I work very hard at the moment to earn as much money as possible but I realized yesterday how tired I was. Was suposed to go out with friends and just couldn't step outside early in the afternoon as I was feeling very dizzy. I slept 5 hours in a row as a result. My social life is greatly affected by my current location and also the fact (I blame myself everyday for it) that I still don't have my driving license. I got my passport two weeks ago but I can't send my application form at the moment because I may fly back to France in a couple of weeks. I am definitely the Queen of complicated situations.
